My Father's Voice
My dad, Tom, had one of those special voices that resonated. He could boom and he could croon or make like a goon. His voice had gravitas until the end. Happy Father's Day.
As a child his voice carried secrets to the sea
As a youth his voice could get carried away
As a young man his voice carried a heavier load
As a husband his voice carried her off
As an actor his voice simply carried
As a teacher his voice carried weight
As my father his voice carried both sorrow and joy
As an old man his voice carried a more burdensome load
Now he’s gone, may his voice carry on.
Me and my dad circa 1970.

Beautiful words, full of feeling.
Your words make me hear that voice you heard
